Week 9 - 22/10/22

Hi everyone, how's your week been?

Well, I did it- I made it to the end of the half term! Now I have two weeks off to catch up on all the things I don't get time to do whilst I'm working. In my mind I have a long list of chores to do and I probably ought to write a list! I also need to fit in the completion of my English assignment which is due to be submitted by the 3rd of November. I have made a start but my academic writing skills are very rusty and I'm finding it hard to collate my pages of note into a coherent essay. I am very thankful that it is Shakespeare's Othello as it is one of my favourite of his plays with fascinating characters and and very relevant plot. One of my favourite lines is "But I do love thee! And when I love thee not, chaos is come again" (Act 3, Scene 3)- such a brilliant quote.

With all the anticipated "busy-ness" of my time off, I am conscious of still making time to have fun with the children and also get out of the house to enjoy some time in nature; to re-charge and clear my head. It's hard sometimes to switch off and take the time to be present and aware of our surroundings- there are so many distractions with our online lives being very addictive and it's easy to be completely immersed in that world rather than the real one around us. This week's poem is one that I wrote with that thought in mind and came to me while I was watching my daughter at her swimming lesson. I looked around at the other parents there and every single one was looking down at their phones. This is not meant to be judgmental as, for all I was aware, they may have had very important tasks to be doing on their devices while their children swam. But, maybe just taking some time to look up and see the smiles on the children's faces when they were doing well or having fun at swimming could have been a more rewarding experience for them. I am going to endeavour to spend less time in the online world over half term and have a go at functioning in the real world which I have been shying away from!

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy the poem and feel free to comment below with your thoughts.

Have a great week!

Kathy

Look up

Look up

Look all around you

See the sun, the sky

The birds in the trees

Look up

Look all around you

See the smile of a stranger

The couple holding hands

Look up

Look all around you

The child laughing, running freely

Your neighbour enjoying a stroll

Look up

Look all around you

Don’t look down

Don’t just look down.
